The BSRI Board of Directors (2019-2022) includes the best and brightest across research, policy, grants, and fiscal sectors. The board meets quarterly to review the BSRI Strategic Plan, budget, clients and projects, and to discuss barriers and strategies for future development.
Chair
Ashmeet Oberoi, Ph.D.
Dr. Ashmeet Oberoi is an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice (Clinical Line) in the Department of Educational and Psychological Studies in the School of Education and Human Development, and the Director of the Community & Social Change Master’s Program at University of Miami. Additionally, she serves on the Executive Committee of the Society for Community Research and Action (SCRA; APA Division 27) as Member-at-Large for APA programming. She has a graduate degree in Child Development and a Ph.D. in Community and Prevention Research with a distinction in statistics and measurement from University of Illinois at Chicago. To overcome inequities in minority communities, Dr. Oberoi engages in education; community-engaged research and evaluation; collaboration and civic work around social justice issues. She is the recipient of “2021 SCRA Early Career Award” and “2020 University of Miami Excellence in Civic Engagement Award.
Dr. Oberoi’s research investigates the development of urban adolescents and young adults who have experienced marginalization and adversity, including immigrants, refugees, and racial/ethnic minorities. In addition, she studies the development and evaluation of preventive interventions designed for urban youth and translates research knowledge into practical interventions and for policy advocacy. She has published her work in a variety of outlets including the American Journal of Community Psychology, Journal of Prevention & Intervention in the Community, and the Journal of Adolescent Research.
Secretary
Roy Thompson
Serving as Vice President for Grants & Contract Management at Jessie Trice Community Health System, Inc., Roy Thompson brings over twenty (20) years of experience in public health management, covering administrative, fiscal and programmatic areas. Mr. Thompson is responsible for developing and submitting funding proposals appropriate for JTCHS, in support of organizational strategic plans for sustainability; he is additionally responsible for reviewing and drafting all forms of contracts for the organization. Mr. Thompson conducts evaluation of funded programs, ensuring they are managed appropriately and are compliant with regulatory, statutory and organizational policies /procedures, promoting high quality services and customer satisfaction. Mr. Thompson’s recent team-based accomplishments include organization-wide behavioral health/primary care systems integration, oral health program and school-based health services expansion, as well as telehealth infrastructure development for school based health and mobile oral health services. Mr. Thompson is a graduate of Stony Brook University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, with graduate studies in Public Health completed at the University of South Florida.
Treasurer
Tim Page, Ph.D.
Dr. Timothy Page joined the faculty of the Department of Health Policy and Management in the Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work in 2008 after completing a doctorate in economics at the University of New Hampshire. His doctoral studies were concentrated in health economics and public finance. As an economist working in public health, the overarching theme of his scholarship and teaching is bringing the tools of economic evaluation into new areas of health services and policy research. Translational research and implementation science are currently areas of great interest to the research community, and economic evaluations of costs and outcomes are integral to the process of translating health service and policy research into widespread implementation to improve population health.
Dr. Page’s research encompasses several topic areas, including kidney transplantation, chronic disease management, community based healthy aging initiatives, HIV/AIDS prevention, home health care for the elderly and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. His research began as a doctoral student evaluating the costs and outcomes of Medicare’s policies affecting kidney transplant recipients. Since joining Florida International University, Dr. Page has worked extensively with local community agencies. He completed a project with Health Choice Network of Florida to evaluate the costs and outcomes of a new model for coordinating the care of diabetic patients. He has also worked with The Health Foundation of South Florida to evaluate the costs of three evidence-based healthy aging programs implemented with community partners in South Florida.
